A groundbreaking five-year study on whether encrypted token incentives can improve the health outcomes of HIV/AIDS patients will be launched in Kenya at the end of the year.
On November 1, the blockchain-powered healthcare ecosystem Immunify.Life and Masin de Murillo University of Technology (MMUST) announced that they have obtained the approval required by the ethics committee and the national committee to initiate this research.
They will jointly conduct a five-year HIV/AIDS study in Kakamega County, Kenya by the end of 2021, and then expand to other parts of the country.

MMUST will use Immunify.Life’s blockchain technology is used to collect and analyze patient data to help improve the outcome of HIV treatment. It will evaluate whether patients will get better treatment results if they are motivated by token rewards for healthy and positive behaviors determined by project sponsors such as non-governmental organizations and government agencies.

“The program we are testing will provide symbolic incentives to encourage disabled patients to come to the clinic for treatment.”
Patients and doctors will get Immunify.Life’s native ERC-20 IMM TokenHe added that these can be used to “complete the prescribed course of antibiotic treatment for tuberculosis” and to encourage “HIV patients to return to the clinic regularly for check-ups and treatment.”
Newin said that medical staff will also be rewarded for positive behaviors such as “correctly filling out medical consultation records, ordering a certain number of tuberculosis tests, or completing medical education.”
Every patient who uses the platform will receive an irreplaceable token (NFT) Health ID to obtain key medical data (such as vaccination records). These data are then transferred to the digital registry to provide medical professionals with remote medical supervision and real-time data access.
The sample size of the study is 600 patients. Half will receive token incentives, and the other half will act as control and will not receive token rewards. The patient will be monitored for more than six months and will receive active treatment and monitoring every month.
The study will also track the efficacy of using paperless medical tracking systems in low socioeconomic areas.
Newing said, “Critical medical data treatment data can be captured in real time, time stamped, and secured; it cannot be hacked or changed.” The platform will initially use Polygon to use a second-layer solution on Ethereum, and long-term plans to connect to Cardano .
In addition to token rewards provided by sponsors, patients will also receive financial benefits from the sale of anonymous medical data. Immunify.Life is currently conducting a round of private financing for strategic and institutional investors before its first DEX issuance (gone) Is scheduled for early 2022.

In addition to HIV work in Kenya, Immunify.Life is also applying its blockchain technology in two other therapeutic areas, namely COVID-19 and opioid addiction.

According to the 2020 UNAIDS report, there are approximately 1.5 million people living with HIV in Kenya. Although 70% of these patients receive treatment, there are difficulties in tracking, accessing, programming, and data collection.
Many people diagnosed with HIV cannot continue to receive treatment. According to Immunify.Life, in some regions, the number of “dead” patients can be as high as 40%. This includes pregnant women, who can transmit the virus to their children at birth.
